Somatic therapy

1:1 work

It is well documented and commonly believed that the mind and body are inextricably linked; when we work with one we affect the other. In Somatic therapy we connect with the unconscious stories of the body and the wisdom, experience and life force held within our cells. When we work with the body in a therapeutic context, we have the opportunity to bring attention to what has remained ‘under the skin’, we bring an awareness to current experiences, influenced by the past, safely through anchoring insights in felt presence and awareness.

“Soma is the body perceived from within…You are the expert of You, on a deep and instinctive level. Your body knows what it needs, what it wants and how to get it. Trust in the dialogue between body wisdom, mind and action.“

We enable the wisdom of the body to be expressed. Working with me we may explore a combination of movement, voice, clothed bodywork and mark-making or art to bring attention to, to inspire, and to integrate unresolved matters of the body and mind. In sessions, you are empowered to direct your own somatic enquiry, to express this in new and creative ways to support your healing and development.

“My path to healing and wholeness has incorporated many modalities; yoga, dance, body wisdom, voice work and an abundance of awareness and compassion, the path has not always been easy, sometimes I’ve totally lost my way and it’s been months before I find my way back home to myself. “

My own acute awareness of the human condition, the reality of pain, trauma and lack of stability and security connects me with practices at a deep and essential level. It is through my own experiences; I am inspired and feel able to share somatic tools of wellbeing and wisdom with you.

I am a registered somatic movement educator and therapist. I hold a diploma in Integrative Bodywork and Movement Therapy. I am also registered with the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association and adhere to their strict rules and guidelines.

1:1 sessions are held in person or online at your address. I offer a free 20-minute video or telephone consultation to begin to explore how we could work together.

“Who is the warrior, God/dess? For each of us they are different; they embody the truth of universal love and a strong conviction of justice. How this is realised is up to you.”

Within my practice I have opportunity to work with and ‘witness’ people living with dementia. During these enjoyable 1:1 movement sessions we use music, rhythm and voice, and different materials and objects to bring us into the ‘shared now experience’. Working in this way, non-verbal cues and embodied responses become more significant, the need for language falls away. Co-creating an open, accepting and brave therapeutic space provides opportunity for creativity as we attend to positive experiences and interactions.  Often, clients can follow the movement and be inspired by imagery only an uninhibited mind can hope to achieve.

“If we position ourselves in a place of humility, people living with dementia can be our greatest teachers; inviting us to be fully present in the moment, to live authentic, creative lives where heart felt connection is everything.”
