Embody Play

A joyful dance and movement experience for children and their grown-ups

Relationship play, is vital for wellbeing, connection, and communication. Embody Play is a semi-structured, monthly dance and movement group for primary aged children and their grown-ups.

A mixed group of children will explore creative movement and dance games, and relationship dynamics in a fun and relaxed environment. Our dances will be inspired by pleasure and connection and supported by a diverse range of music, colourful materials and props.

These sessions are led by me, I’m a proud mum of two, one safely flown the nest and the other at primary school. I am a registered movement therapist and have been facilitating movement and dance in schools, community, and health care for over 20 years. The sessions are inspired by the developmental movement work of Veronica Sherborne and my own creative dance and movement practices (including 5Rhythms, Contact Improvisation and BioDanza) Also, the need identified by my youngest to express herself and be witnessed in free, fun dance. I am excited to be offering an additional joyful activity for families to build relationships, respect and trust.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

The first half of the session will be fun and cohesive. A series of semi structured movement and dance activities to facilitate embodied and confident creative expression. We will then have a short water and fruit break and then enjoy a half hour free dance where we have opportunity to try out our new moves and connections to a carefully curated playlist. The dance session will finish with a relaxing sharing circle time.

Joining this group and sharing the experience with your child will support your connection, it will bring joy and help develop and maintain a positive awareness of self and others. Embody Play will nurture playfulness, foster creativity, and promote autonomy.

Fees: £10 for one grown up and one child. Extra children in the same family £4 each. (Please be in touch if low income is genuinely a barrier to attending or you have any questions)

You will never be pushed into any movement experience you do not feel comfortable with; we will find other ways of building up the experience, so a sense of achievement is realised.

I will strongly promote a no shoes and socks dance space, this enables us to feel both connection with the floor and supports our gait and confidence in movement. (There are of course medical exceptions when shoes should be worn!)

Please be in touch to ask any questions and sign up for the newsletter to be informed of start dates. Thank you.
